Promoting Education and Equity for Women and Girls
WHAT ABOUT SUMMER AND AAUW-OML?
Would you like to have some summer AAUW events? A small group will meet (or share email) to come up with a list of do-able options for summertime activities. These are hoped to be fun and low maintenance activities. Some examples might include a picnic at the reservoir, a "build something" morning, afternoon, or evening (like the Tech Trek girls do), viewing and discussion of a thought-provoking documentary, etc. You get the point. The timeframe for pulling together some ideas is April and early May, so that we would have something to present at the May board meeting. If you are interested in the brainstorming get-together, or you have an idea or two to share right out of the gate, please contact us.

A New AAUW Research Report: Graduating to a Pay Gap
The American Association of University Women (AAUW) recently released a new study, Graduating to a Pay Gap. The study explores the earnings difference between female and male college graduates who are working full time one year after graduation. The report, which uses the latest nationally representative data, compares apples to apples by looking at the pay gap after controlling for various factors known to affect earnings, such as occupation, college major, and hours worked. It also examines one immediate effect that the pay gap has on many women: the heavy burden of student loan debt.
Our branch serves Orinda, Moraga, and Lafayette, small California towns nestled in rolling hills about 15 miles east of San Francisco. We have much to offer our members, including activities, events, interest groups, and educational opportunities.
The American Association of University Women is a national organization that advances equity for women through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. AAUW has more than 100,000 members in 1300 branches across the United States and 550 college/university members. It lobbies and advocates for education and equity for women and girls. Our commitment to these issues is reflected by the AAUW public policy program.
- The Educational Opportunities Fund, one of the most important programs of AAUW, is the nation's oldest foundation awarding fellowships and grants to women. It supports educational and lifelong learning opportunities that give women a chance for a lifetime of success.
- The Legal Advocacy Fund, another important program of AAUW, supports the protection of the legal rights of those who are facing discrimination.
