Burckhalter Elementary School
We adopted Burckhalter Elementary School in 1993, tutoring students or staffing the library at this underserved school located off of Highway 13 in Oakland. If you want a volunteer opportunity that offers incredible rewards, please consider these opportunities:
- In the Library: Volunteers work Mondays or Thursdays helping with book selection and have two computers available for checking books out. Orientation classes and story telling are additional enrichment activities the volunteers provide.
- In the classroom: Tutors work with students in K - 5th grade, usually one day a week.
- 5th Grade Writing Workshop: A team has students write paragraphs and reports related to classroom reading assignments.
