A Priceless Opportunity for Seventh and Eight Grade Girls

The Sister-to-Sister Summit is an award-winning program presented by the Orinda-Moraga-Lafayette branch of AAUW (the American Association of University Women). This year's Summit will be April 28, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Bentley School, 1000 Upper Happy Valley Road, Lafayette.

Middle School Girls

S2S girlsS2S gives middle school girls a taste of sisterhood, a jolt of self-confidence, a sense of hope, and is overall a great experience. During the Summit, each girl learns about her own individual personality, as well as skills for interacting with and interpreting the people and the world around her. Tools used include videos, group discussion, art, teamwork, writing, and goal setting. By the end of the program, girls often have a new vision of what is possible for themselves.

High School Girls

S2S girlsThrough the six-month long Sister-to-Sister training, the high school girls gain confidence and life skills. AAUW trainers work with them to plan every detail of the Summit to be "girl relevant" and to build an effective team to lead the Summit day without adult intervention. They learn facilitation skills, which include listening, questioning, and managing the group so that everyone gets heard and so that they can lead discussions with the younger girls about their lives.

For All of the Girls

S2S girlsWe feel this can be a win-win for all the girls involved. The high school girls have been training since September. A select group of middle school girls have been training since late January. All are eager to welcome your daughter to the 2012 Summit. At Sister-to-Sister, we feel the most important thing that we offer is the opportunity for girls to come together to be themselves in a supportive environment.
